Most steps take a minute. Where something needs us to set it up, the step builds the email for you. Your ticks are saved in this browser only.

  1. Join the VIBE national mailing list

The national bioinformatics list for Ireland, hosted by HEAnet and run by the VIBE community. Jobs, funding calls, events and the monthly call agenda go out here. It is open to everyone.

To join, you send one email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.HEANET.IE with the line SUBSCRIBE BIOINFORMATICS Your Full Name. Enter your name and the button writes it for you.

    About VIBE

HEAnet replies to confirm your subscription. You can also sign up on the HEAnet website.

  2. Sign up to the ELIXIR Ireland newsletter

A monthly round-up of ELIXIR Ireland news, events, training and opportunities. Use your institutional email. Addresses from member institutes are added straight away; other academic or work addresses are checked by our team first.

  3. Add the monthly call to your calendar

The VIBE and ELIXIR Ireland call runs on the fourth Thursday of every month, 14:00–15:00 Irish time, on Microsoft Teams. Updates from the Node, news from ELIXIR Europe and time for questions. The calendar entry repeats monthly and includes the Teams link and the agenda.

Outlook or Apple Calendar: the .ics file opens in your calendar app.
Phone or Linux: open the downloaded file and your calendar app adds it.
Outlook on the web: copy the calendar link, then in Outlook go to Add calendar, Subscribe from web, and paste it.

  4. Bookmark the shared folder

The VIBE and ELIXIR Ireland Google Drive folder holds the monthly call minutes, slides, recordings and national survey results.

  5. Follow ELIXIR Ireland on LinkedIn

News, events and calls as they happen. Tag us when you post about ELIXIR-related work and we will share it.

  6. Request Slack and other access

These need someone on our team to add you. Tick what you need and press the button: your email app opens with the request to elixir@ul.ie filled in. Send it from your institutional email; requests from personal addresses are not approved.

    I need

  7. Get added to the VIBE PI directory

For principal investigators, lecturers and permanent staff. A card in the VIBE Principal Investigators and Research Groups directory makes you and your group visible to the community for collaboration and networking.

Request it on GitHub, or email elixir@ul.ie using the template. Both ask for the same details:

    • Full name with title, and your role or position
    • Institution
    • Profile photo URL, such as the photo on your staff page (or attach a headshot to the email)
    • Lab or personal website URL and ORCID iD
    • Public contact email (optional)
  8. Watch the onboarding session

An introduction to ELIXIR and ELIXIR Ireland, recorded with the VIBE community in August 2025. It covers how the Node works and how to get involved.

Next: connect to ELIXIR Europe. Create your ELIXIR intranet account and join the international expert groups that match your work.

How the ELIXIR Ireland Node works

ELIXIR Ireland is the Irish Node of ELIXIR, Europe's infrastructure for life science data. It is a network of member institutes coordinated from the University of Limerick (UL). A Management Board with a representative from each institute sets the Node's direction.

  • National projects: the Node takes part in EOSC Ireland, the European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) and other nationally funded infrastructure work. Calls to take part go out on the mailing lists.
  • Funding and European projects: before applying for an ELIXIR call or joining a Horizon Europe consortium through ELIXIR, talk to the Head of Node and Node Coordinator. They can check fit and support the application.
  • Training: see training and travel grants.
